Project Description

Larnaca

Larnaca is the third largest city in Cyprus and it prides itself for its important port as well as an international airport. Its contribution to the island’s rich culture heritage is a fact as it is built on the site where ancient Kition and a city kingdom once stood. An important seat of Christianity since early years, Kition, was the second home of Jesus friend, Lazarus. The district of Larnaca has a lot of interesting ancient and Byzantine places to visit like Monasteries, Churches (St Lazarus Church, Angeloktisit etc.)

The resort is mostly modern with an attractive long sea front Promenade fringed by Palm Trees (Called Phinikoudes) restaurants, cafes and various shops. To the one end of the Promenade is a pleasure Marina and at the other end an ancient Fort around which is the old quarter of the city. Continuing your walk along the newly constructed sea front pathway you will reach Mackenzie Beach, one of the best sandy beaches located in the town of Larnaca. To the South East of the town of Larnaca, occupying a large sandy bay, is a tourist resort with all types of hotels & apartments.

A most interesting place to visit is also the Salt Lake, located 5 km from the city. It is a complex network of four salt lakes, three of which are interconnected. Besides its picturesque beauty, the lake has over 85 species of waterbirds. It is one of the important migratory passages through Cyprus. Among them are 2,000–12,000 flamingos, wild duck and other waterfowl which find refuge here during the winter months. On the shore of the lake is the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, which is considered a very important Muslim monument.
