Ayia Napa

Located on the southeast corner of the Island Ayia Napa beach resort is quite famous for its sumptuous sandy beaches, fantastic variety of night life to suit all tastes, all types of restaurants, taverns, bars plus many more. The natural sandy beaches offer great facilities for surfing and scuba diving where divers can see multiple underwater caves, rocks, amphora’s and boat wrecks.

The Marine Park is a place of interest, multiple concerts, festivals and carnivals are organized there throughout the year, the most important date in the calendar is the Ayia Napa Festival at the end of September. There are several entertainment centres for children, including the dinosaur park and the modern Water World aquarium. Every year Water World becomes bigger with new attractions, the park is recognized as the largest in Europe.

The town’s main landmark is the imposing medieval monastery dedicated to ‘Our Lady of the Forests’ which stands in the middle of Ayia Napa surrounded by a high wall enclosure. Its 16th century church is partially underground, carved into a rock. The guest house to the east of the church belongs to the World Council of Churches. An ancient sycamore tree, believed to be over 600 years old, grows in front of the south gate.

The quaint fishing harbour of the resort is full of all types of boats where one can a take a leisurely boat trip and enjoy lunch on board as well as swimming & snorkelling. Around the harbour one can find all types of taverns serving fish and local food.

A place worth a visit is Cape Greco National Park located halfway between Ayia Napa & Protaras resort. It is believed that in ancient times a temple dedicated to Aphrodite once existed here. The park is an area of unique natural beauty with hiking and cycling routes, beautiful sea cave formations, flowers, orchids and other rare plant species. Quite a large variety of birds have also been spotted plus hares, foxes, lizards & hedgehogs as the Park is a natural game reserve and hunting is prohibited.
